Consumer Marketing Coordinator

Position Summary

The San Francisco brand is among the most compelling and intriguing brands in the world. For more than 100 years the San Francisco Convention & Visitors Bureau (SFCVB) has marketed San Francisco and the Bay Area as the premier destination for conventions, meetings, events and leisure travel. It is critical for the SFCVB to constantly reinvent itself using fresh creative concepts and ideas to lure first-time visitors and reengage prior visitors to San Francisco. The Consumer Marketing group targets individual leisure travelers – a key segment that comprises the largest percentage (40%) of visitors to the city.

Working with the Director of Consumer Marketing, the Consumer Marketing Coordinator contributes to the development and execution of Consumer Marketing programs based on the annual Consumer Marketing Program of Work as determined by the Director and CMO.

Following is additional detail regarding key areas of experience required:

Project management, multi-tasking and prioritization:

  • Manages the execution of consumer marketing programs and partnerships, including communication with stakeholders, development of schedules, gathering of content, data input and quality assurance.
  • Primary liaison with external agencies and internal cross functional teams in the development and production of electronic and printed marketing collateral, and manages fulfillment of consumer marketing deliverables.
  • Able to juggle multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize effectively.

Creativity and persuasive communication skills:

  • Develops messaging for recruitment and promotion of assigned programs to key stakeholders to increase participation.
  • Updates online content, and manages production of electronic communications (blog, newsletter, emails to participants) for Dine About Town, American Express Exclusive Offers, Taste SF, and LGBT.
  • Develops comprehensive post-campaign analyses and reports.
  • Uses creativity in the development of all facets of the monthly and quarterly consumer newsletters, including editorial calendars, copy and sourcing of images. Manages electronic production and deployment, analyzes results, and recommends tactics to improve results.
  • Contributes to the development and execution of the Search Engine Marketing program, including strategies to improve performance of the campaigns and development of new creative.

Budget management and tracking:

  • Responsible for sourcing estimates, processing invoices, tracking the consumer marketing budget, and researching discrepancies. Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills are a must.

Qualifications:

  • Develops messaging for recruitment and promotion of assigned programs to key stakeholders to increase participation.
  • 2+ years in marketing, business development or sales; ability to handle heavy client/member contact both in-person and over the phone.
  • Excellent presentation, written and oral communication skill and a commitment to high standards of customer service.
  • Knowledge of basic marketing principles.
  • Proficiency with basic Microsoft Office applications, Internet and Social Media. Experience with Dreamweaver, Photoshop, html, and Silverpop or other email service provider experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with suppliers and media.

Chief Operating Officer

Position Summary

The San Francisco Convention & Visitors Bureau (SFCVB) is one of the largest and most admired destination marketing organizations in the country. A highly visible leader, our new COO will partner with his or her executive team peers to lead the way into our next 100 years of excellence. Our COO will share our passion for San Francisco as well our commitment to the vision and mission of the Bureau. He or she will report directly to our CEO and be responsible for the day-to-day leadership of the following key functions: People & Organizational Development, IT, Operations, and management of the Tourism Improvement District (TID).

The COO will be responsible for aligning and mobilizing the organization to successfully implement our strategic plan and achieve our core objectives. Our COO will be an outstanding leader and communicator with a demonstrated ability to work across functional lines to influence, inspire and integrate how we work together and how we serve one another as well as our many customers and stakeholders.

General Responsibilities

Effective Leadership

  • Model the way by consistently demonstrating the Bureau’s Principles of Leadership through actions and behaviors.
  • Ensure an upbeat, productive and responsive organizational culture.
  • Clearly communicate the Bureau’s strategic priorities to staff and stakeholders as appropriate.
  • Partner with the executive team to develop the skill, knowledge and competency of staff
  • Provide leadership through collaboration with executive team to ensure that the organization is on track to deliver on key goals.
  • Effectively and appropriately address organizational issues and challenges as they arise.
  • Provide guidance as appropriate to ensure the acquisition, development and retention of the right talent.

Strategy/Business Planning and Implementation

  • Work across all Bureau functions in partnership with executive leadership to align and mobilize the organization and to ensure the success of critical initiatives such as the Centennial Project and achievement of the objectives of the strategic plan. Take decisive, collaborative action to course-correct should the organization not be on target to achieve the objectives of the strategic plan.
  • Report to the CEO, the executive team, the board and to the organization the progress the Bureau is making toward achieving its core objectives.
  • Provide expert counsel to the CEO and the executive team on matters related to strategic planning and strategy implementation.
  • Incorporate a keen understanding of the many external factors impacting destination marketing to ensure a relevant and effective strategic plan.

Operational Excellence

  • Ensure the organization understands and values the principles of continuous improvement.
  • Identify, develop and monitor internal systems and processes to ensure internal efficiency.
  • Oversee and align organization-wide performance metrics.

Specific Functional Responsibilities

People and Organizational Development

  • Guide the Executive Team in the development of people and organizational culture.
  • Prioritize, develop, implement and oversee the Bureau’s people development initiatives.
  • Develop and implement short and long-term organizational capacity-building initiatives and activities, including change management.
  • Develop and implement an organization-wide knowledge management system.

Human Resources

  • Manage, develop and retain qualified HR talent and/or retain and oversee the work of outside resource partners.
  • Guide and oversee HR Services, policies and programs for the Bureau.
  • Act as Ombudsperson for the Bureau to address and rectify staff grievances.
  • Manage day-to-day HR needs.

Information Technology

  • Manage, develop and retain qualified IT talent.
  • Oversee the day-to-day management of the Bureau’s IT function.
  • Lead the creation, implementation and evolution of the Bureau’s IT strategy.
  • Develop and manage strategic IT partnerships.
  • Guide and manage IT services, security, infrastructure, software and systems.
  • Ensure the Bureau is implementing the various IT initiatives and activities indicated in the strategic plan.
  • Ensure the IT function is appropriately resourced to effectively support the ongoing IT needs of the Bureau.

Operations

  • Manage, develop and retain qualified Operations talent.
  • Oversee and monitor the annual strategic plan development and implementation.
  • Lead the process of developing and integrating the Bureau’s annual strategic plan and business plan.
  • Oversee and monitor the development of the annual business plan.
  • Ensure the successful completion of the Centennial Project.
  • Manage the SFCVB Emergency Response plan.

Tourism Improvement District (TID)

  • Provide detailed management oversight of the TID and related reporting activities.
  • Ensure excellent support services for the TID Board.
  • Partner with the CEO to ensure a successful outcome for Phase II of the TID.
  • Act as the key executive liaison to the TID.

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, our COO will have demonstrated experience in either Hospitality or the Convention & Visitors Bureau industry. He or she will demonstrate outstanding abilities in the following key areas:

Bachelor’s degree, MBA preferred (or equivalent work experience).

Marketing Manager, Industry Relations

Position Summary

We are also a 1,600+ member organization, with deep relationships throughout San Francisco’s visitor industry and beyond, and we are constantly on the lookout for great people who can build mutually-beneficial relationships via use of innovative communications, programs, events, or any other tools, assets, and channels.

The Marketing Manager, Industry Relations will be responsible for communicating the value of San Francisco’s tourism industry, and the SFCVB’s initiatives to support the industry, to internal and external "stakeholders" – for example SFCVB members, prospective members, business associations, local industry groups, and local residents and when/where appropriate and working alongside our Public Relations team, the local media as well.

Following is additional detail regarding key areas of experience required:

Communications/Content Strategy

  • Responsible for developing, managing and implementing strategic program, services, events and organization initiative communication plans in conjunction with Industry Relations/Member Development project owner(s). Includes the writing, editing, production and distribution of printed, electronic, social media, and web-based communications directed to prospective and active stakeholders.
  • Write, edit, coordinate production and optimize distribution of the SFCVB Industry Relations/Development communication programs.
  • Plan, implement, facilitate and manage Industry Relations/Development social media plan.

Project Management

  • Plan, implement and execute editorial calendars for ongoing communication strategies as they relate to various departments needs, communication plans and key messages and objectives.
  • Work in conjunction with internal/external resources to oversee Industry Relations/ Development assessment plan and tools to ensure that IR/D communications remain relevant and topical.

Technical

  • "Power User" for SFCVB bureau Content Management and CRM technology tools.
  • Build, design, edit and distribute electronic communications and web environments through CRM, CMS, and third party email system.

Budget Management

  • Responsible for sourcing estimates, processing invoices, and tracking of the IR/D budget.

Qualifications

  • Must have excellent writing and communication skills - having the ability to synthesize concepts, conduct research and represent the "Bureau voice," in various traditional and non-traditional channels.
  • Ability to think strategically, set short, mid and long range goals, implement plans, project manage and perform analysis and make recommendations to key staff.
  • Education and/or training equivalent to college graduate (journalism/marketing desirable) and/or business experience, plus three years experience with writing, editing and production of newsletters, collateral materials or promotional brochures using desktop publishing. Experience with electronic communications and marketing, database management and the Internet.
  • Experience writing copy for web, electronic communications, social media, press releases or news copy and knowledge of Associated Press style are required.
  • Working knowledge of electronic/web environment design and technical skills, including traditional print process.
  • Must have superior computer skills. Specifically (on PC and/or Mac): CRM, CMS, web analytic tools, InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver/HTML, Word, Excel, Internet, and PowerPoint.
  • Must be able to produce printed and online materials with time sensitivity and work well under pressure of multiple deadlines.
  • Must be able to communicate and work well with executives and staff at all levels as well as members, media, vendors and others in a professional office environment.
